Help with childcare costs

Any employees looking for support with their childcare costs can join the Tax-Free Childcare Scheme known as TFC. The scheme aims to help working families, including the self-employed, in the UK

  • Earning under £100k and at least £167 per week (equal to 16 hours at the National Minimum or Living Wage) each
  • Who aren’t receiving Tax Credits, Universal Credit or childcare vouchers
  • With children aged 0-11 (or 0-16 if disabled)
  • For every £8 you pay into an online account, the government will add an extra £2, up to £2,000 per child per year

These tools can help you plan and secure the right care for your children.

Listed below are some local childcare facilities that offer NHS Discount.

Childcare support:

 

Churchview Nursery (Newcastle/Gateshead)

Established over 20 years ago, Church View Day Nursery is a 60-place,  independent private day nursery, conveniently located in the grounds of St. Nicholas Park, adjacent to the Northumberland Wildlife Trust Park. 

The nursery is open 51 weeks of the year 7:30am-6pm. They offer childcare from 6 weeks to 5 years. Churchview is offering 10% off childcare costs (new business only) with proof of NHS employment (ID badge). 

Cedars Nursery (Newcastle and Gateshead) 

Cedars Nursery is based in Sunderland and in Newcastle. They are open from 7:30 until 6pm and can take from ages 0-5 years. 

Cedar Nursery offers NHS staff 10% discount. 

Adventure Valley Day Nursery (Durham) 

Adventure Valley Day Nursery and Pre-school is all about giving your child the very best early year education within a countryside environment.

Working in partnership with leading childcare provider Kids Play childcare, children will enjoy a brand new nursery and Pre-school building, with private nursery gardens and daily supervised visits to Adventure Valley.

Adventure Valley have availability for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. There is an NHS discount scheme on presentation of a valid NHS ID card.

Apple Blossom Day Nursery 

Apple Blossom Day Nursery is able to take children from 0-8 years of age. They have nurseries in Alnwick, Sunderland, Durham, and Hexham. They operate Monday to Friday 7:30am-6pm. Apple Blossom is currently offering NHS staff 10% discount on childcare.

Tynemouth Nursery Group

Tynemouth Nursery Group first registered in August 1999. There are now seven settings in the group:

  • Tynemouth Nursery at TMC Wallsend
  • Tynemouth Nursery at Jesmond
  • Tynemouth Nursery at North Shields

Tynemouth Nursery group offer a 15% discount for full time children.

Kids Planet

Kids Planet is suitable from ages 0-5 years. They have nurseries located in Cramlington, Westerhope, Wallsend, Kenton, Penrith and Durham and are open Monday- Friday 7am-6pm. Kids Plant offer a 5% discount to NHS staff. 

Family Hub

Northumberland County Council Family Hubs in Northumberland were previously known as Children’s Centres, Northumberland County Council’s Family Hubs carry out a range of work in the local community, which ranges from birth registration, midwifery services and infant feeding support, to primary mental health, community events, relationship support and more.

Regional Support for Young People

Children North East deliver 28 different projects across the North East through the five critical stages of growing up: Pregnancy and babyhood Starting school Changing school Adolescence Becoming independent Their Young People’s Service offers a one to one counselling service for 9 to 25 years.  Drop in groups at their West End Youth building on the West Road for 11 to 25 year olds, these sessions include cooking, youth activities, advice and support.  Peer mentoring – Youth Link Newcastle and Northumberland.
