Alcohol Awareness Week 2026: Supporting Health & Wellbeing

Alcohol Awareness Week (6–12 July 2026) is an opportunity to promote healthier relationships with alcohol and support wellbeing across our communities.

This year’s theme, ‘Alcohol and Me’, encourages individuals to reflect on how alcohol impacts their physical health, mental wellbeing, and daily lives.

In a world where alcohol is often made to feel central to everyday moments – from birthdays and barbecues to nights in front of the TV and celebrations with friends – this year’s campaign invites us to pause and reflect on the role that alcohol is playing in our lives.

With a summer of football inspiring communities across the country, Alcohol Awareness Week is the perfect opportunity to highlight how we can enjoy major sporting moments without relying on alcohol.

Alcohol can contribute to:

· Poor sleep and low energy

· Increased stress and anxiety

· Reduced productivity

· Long-term health risks including liver disease, stroke, and some cancers

As healthcare staff, we are well placed to support awareness and encourage positive change.

How to get involved

Teams can support the campaign by:

· Sharing key messages and resources

· Displaying posters in clinical and community areas

· Using MECC approaches in routine interactions

· Encouraging staff and service users to reflect on alcohol use

Please consider how your service can support Alcohol Awareness Week and incorporate MECC conversations into routine practice to promote health and wellbeing. Visit our Alcohol Awareness Week campaign page for more information, training and resources.
