This year’s A Weight off Your Mind Summer Challenge is in full swing!

The 2024 challenge coincides with the Olympics and Paralympics, running from Friday 26 July to Sunday 8th September.

The aim is to make small, positive changes towards a healthier lifestyle.

The motto for this year’s Olympics and Paralympics is ‘Games Wide Open’, an invitation to stop seeing differences as obstacles. We want you to adopt the same motto for the Summer Challenge and give everyone the opportunity to take part.

Lots of patients and staff have got involved so far.

St George’s Park hosted a sports and fun day last week, which included lives music, games and a tombola. The exercise therapy team led rounders, tug of war, cycling, and football. Some of the equipment used had been funded by the Trust’s charity and the SHINE fund.

There have also been bike sessions at St Nicholas Hospital, where staff and patients had access to bike rides. Participants have cycled from the hospital through the city centre and across the Tyne Bridge, over to the Town Moor before heading back. There are more rides arranged for 3rd September and 10th September.

Hopewood Park has hosted a three-week site challenge with all wards. There has been a different activity each week, including a mini duathlon, long jump, and basketball.
